RTI Assists in effort resulting in first FAA Waiver Approval

RTI Group, LLC. Assists in an effort that results in one of the first waivers to a US company for approval to fly Unmanned Aircraft Systems beyond the Part 107 rules.

Stevensville Maryland., 31 August 2016 – RTI Group, LLC. congratulates its client on its receipt Monday of one of the first waivers from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to legally fly unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) beyond the Part 107 rules.  RTI is proud to have provided the engineering support that aided in preparing the waiver application.

Monday marked the day that Part 107 of the FAA’s Small UAS Rule went into effect. Part 107 provides broad allowances for the commercial use of UAS in the United States – the first time this has ever been allowed.  Under the rule, though, special permission in the form of a waiver must be granted by the FAA to a commercial entity in order to fly UAS outside of the Part 107 rules.

RTI’s efforts provided the information needed to show that safe operations posing minimal risk could be conducted. The RTI team consisted of Matthew Wagenhofer, Director of Engineering and Research, and Jeremy Reynolds, Director of Unmanned Aircraft Systems Program.
